Carricola – Valencia
Celler Tomas Torres is in the village of Carricola (written in the manner of coca-cola when you drive into the village) in the hills about an hour south of Valencia. Vicent has been making natural wines in these pretty hills for over twenty years. He now farms around 5 hectares split into 14 parcels on limestone soils He makes wine without fuss, primarily for a local market, or as he put it, for people who care about their health.
The wines are vibrant and generally bottled within the year although he makes a few (incredibly good value) wines that are barrel aged. The whites are made from local varieties; Tortosi, Tardana and Macabeu. The reds from Tempranillo, known locally as Hare's eye or ull de llebre and little parcels of Cabernet , Merlot and Syrah.
