GLOW GLOW
Mandel - Nahe
Nestled into the hills between the Rhine & Mosel valleys, you’ll find the Nahe. Though one of Germany’s smallest wine regions, the Nahe has over 2000 years of wine tradition & it is here, in a village called Mandel that Pauline & Carl work, the 6th generation to farm the lands of Weingut Baumberger.
After working abroad in other fields, Pauline was perhaps inevitably drawn back to the world of wine & embarked on a masters degree in wine management & sustainability. She was inspired by the natural wines that she drank at this time, & by the culture & philosophies of the people that made them & decided to return to the family estate to begin her own project.
With the support of her family, Pauline commenced her first small production in 2019. She was soon joined by her brother Carl, who had been following his own path through his studies in viticulture & winemaking.
Together they forged a new direction for the family domaine by creating their own label, Glow Glow (a play on the french term glou-glou), bringing in new ideas on sustainability, vinification, & organic viticulture, & by championing a style of wine & wine farming largely unknown in the Nahe before. - E.B.
Producer: Glow Glow
Region: Nahe, Germany
Grapes: Riesling
Style: White
Alc.: 12%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: A continuation of Pauline and Carl’s project to age wines from their older riesling vines of 42–44 years growing on red standstone. Noble reduction on the nose, with hints of butterscotch; an electric zip on the palate, and a complex, toasty finish – an incredible expression of riesling from Nahe!
