Marie et Vincent Tricot, Le Petit Rouge de la Côte Ouest 2023
Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: Gamay d’Auvergne
Style: Red
Alc: 13%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: From a small plot of old gamay d’Auvergne vines planted between 1964-72. 80% is destemmed, and the fruit is macerated for 17 days. The wine is aged in a mix of stoneware jars, barrels, and foudre for 11 months. This is the weightier and more brooding companion to the lithe and fruit-forward Petites Fleur – dark fruit, dense inky tannin, with that classic Auvergnat smokiness on the finish.

Orcet - Auvergne
Vincent and Marie had worked in Beaujolais in the 1990s and were heavily influenced by the work of Jules Chauvet, Marcel Lapierre et al. In a quest for the terroir and vines with which to work in this same spirit, they moved to the Auvergne in 2002. They started off with 4.5 hectares and over the years have planted another 5 or so…Read more

Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: Chardonnay, Muscat d’Ottonel
Style: White Sparkling
Alc.: 11%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: A return of a lovely pet nat from the Tricots! Peachy fruit, elegant bubbles, and a tiny touch of sugar makes this extremely quaffable. Chardonnay and muscat are direct pressed.
Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: 40% Chardonnay, 40% Muscat Ottonel, 20% Aligoté
Style: White
Size: 75cl bottle
Alc.: 11.5%
Notes: A very welcome return of White Light to the shelves here. Direct press for all three varieties; the Muscat and Chardonnay are fermented together, and the Aligoté is added to the mix later. Gently aromatic, with a floral nose. The palate is fresh with a lemon soda-like tingle and a peachy finish.
Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: Aligoté
Style: White
Alc.: 11.5%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: From a plot planted between 2018 and 2020. The grapes are pressed direct, and aged in tanks. Lovely salinity and acidity with some fresh white peach depth.
Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: 95% Sauvignon Blanc, 3% Chardonnay, 2% Gamay d'Auvergne
Style: White
Alc.: 12%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: Very ripe Sauvignon Blanc (picked at the end harvest season) is direct pressed; the Tricots also blended in a touch of macerated Chardonnay and Gamay d’Auvergne, before it is aged for 11 months in stoneware jars. This new vintage is a return to the pithy and herbal resin-y style of Rasséréné! Spiced fruit plus complex pine-like notes on the finish.
Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc
Style: White/Orange
Alc.: 12.5%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: Made from 2 plots of sauvignon blanc that are picked last during the harvest. One part is direct pressed, the other is macerated in whole bunches for 6 days, then blended. The wine is aged for 11 months in stoneware jars which impart a chalky mineral note to balance that lush tropical fruit, and vibrant acidity. One to drink slowly, and perfect as a final bottle for evening!

Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Gamay d’Auvergne
Style: Pink
Alc.: 12%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: The Pinot Noir is macerated very lightly, blended with direct press Gamay and fermented and aged in a mix of old barrels and stoneware vessels. This has a lovely mix of savoury, herbal notes with more plush, sherbet-y fruit.

Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: Gamay d’Auvergne
Style: Red
Size: 75cl bottle
Alc. 12%
Notes: This is from a plot of older vines, planted at 400m, the grapes see a short 8 day maceration in whole bunches. The hot summer has produced some lovely ripe fruit, balanced by some salty and smoky notes.

Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: 75% Pinot Noir, 25% Pineau d’Aunis
Style: Red
Alc: 11.5%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: The second vintage of MC with Pineau d’Aunis. Harvested at the end of August, macerated in whole bunches for about 6 days. Spiced and peppery on the nose with bright, mouth-watering fruit. This is one that can be enjoyed chilled.
Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Gamay d’Auvergne, 24% Syrah
Style: Red
Size: 75cl bottle
Alc: 12%
Notes: The three varieties are macerated and vinified separately and differently: a mix of some mainly destemmed grapes, some whole bunches, and for ageing, barrels for the Syrah, stoneware vessels for the other two. The Syrah brings some violet-y dark fruit and spiced notes, and the other two grapes bring that distinct Auvergnat bloody/smoky edge.

Producer: Marie & Vincent Tricot
Region: Auvergne, France
Grapes: Chardonnay
Style: White
Alc: 13%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: A classic from the Tricots, Chardonnay from a south-facing plot planted in 1999, pressed off and aged for a year in a mix of fûts and stoneware jars. Escargot 2024 is leaner, with a stony mineral core. The fruit was picked in 2 stages – early in the harvest, and one much later, so riper – which brings an opulent, creamy quality to the wine.
