Casa Agricola Malauva
Castel Giorgio - Umbria
Elisa Cortese and Giovanni Adua bought a small farm in the hills above Castel Giorgio in 2017 at the crossroads of Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria, on volcanic soils not far from Lago di Bolsena. They began to restore 6 hectares of vineyards and surrounding forest as well as the farm buildings - the aim is to open an agriturismo in the next few years.
With plantations of Procanico, Drupeggio, Trebbiano, Sangiovese and more, Elisa and Giovanni have quickly found their stride making wines with a strong identity and compelling drinkability. The direct press whites are zippy with a wonderful saline minerality and the macerated Bianco balances this same spirit with more serious structure. Their expressions of Sangiovese are wonderful and show their deft hand. With such a strong start the future is really exciting.

Region: Umbria, Italy
Grapes: Sangiovese
Style: Pink
Alc.: 13.5%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: This is from a plot of roughly 40 year-old vines planted on clay soils. A mix of mainly direct press and a little maceration for about a day, this is lean and bright. A delightful pink for any time of year.

Grapes: Procanico, Drupeggio, Verdello, Malvasia

Notes: Spiced citrus with a real toothsome grip coming from the long maceration and aging. One to share, and to drink slowly. A special wine from a special parcel planted in the 1950s, with vines 'married' (trained along the branches) to fruit trees in the Etruscan method.
