Celler la gutina
Sant Climent Sescebes - Catalunya - Spain
Barbara and Joan Carles Torres make wine on the windswept slopes of the Aspres des Alberes, just over the border from France. They grow Grenache predominantly, which seems to really enjoy the granite soil by expressing itself with tension in the glass, but also grow olives and small plots of other grape varieties.
Barbara is Italian but has made a very strong connection to her new home which is where Joan Carlos was born and bred. Their love of this place comes across not only in the way they farm organically, and yet in keeping with Catalan tradition, but also their commitment to the community around them demonstrated perfectly by the fact that Joan Carlos is also a part-time fireman in the local village.
Producer: La Gutina
Region: Catalunya, Spain
Grapes: Garnacha Peluda
Style: Red
Alc.: 12.5%
Size: 75cl bottle
Notes: From a tiny plot of “Hairy Grenache” they planted in 2014. This is destemmed and then fermented in aged in glass demijohns. It’s lithe and precise, with an intense and rounded fruit at the finish. A hugely exciting wine!
